Honors College Scholarships

The Honors College offers several undergraduate scholarships for currently enrolled Honors students each academic year. Applications must contain student's Western ID# and must be submitted to honors@wwu.edu by the listed due date.

Adams Honors College Scholarship

This award will be made to an upper-level Honors College student on the basis of academic merit and response to the following prompt: “How my Honors education has benefitted me to this point and how I might use it in the future.” Responses may not exceed 750 words. To be eligible students must have completed at least 90 quarter college credits by the end of Spring Quarter 2024 and be in good standing with the Honors College (ie. have taken an HNRS course within the previous three quarters). The award is $1100 and will be made for the 2024-2025 academic year. A student need not be enrolled for the entire academic year to receive this award. Applications must contain your Western student ID# and must be submitted to honors@wwu.edu by noon on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Gastellum Honors/College of the Environment Scholarship

This award will be made to an Honors College student in a College of the Environment major on the basis of academic merit, one letter of recommendation (from someone who can speak to your experience with environmental issues), and response to the following prompt: “My commitment to the solution of an environmental problem is demonstrated by….” Responses may not exceed 750 words. To be eligible students must have completed at least 90 credits by the end of Spring Quarter 2024 and be in good standing with the Honors College. The award is $1489 and will be made for the 2024-2025 academic year. A student need not be enrolled for the entire academic year to receive this award. Applications must contain your Western student ID# and must be submitted to honors@wwu.edu by noon on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Honors Senior Project Scholarship(s) 

Honors College students who are engaged in their Senior Projects may apply for the Honors Senior Project Scholarship. There will be one award tuition waiver of $1,800 or two of $900 and will be made for the 2024-2025 academic year. A student need not be enrolled for the entire academic year to receive this award. Applicants must provide an electronic submission describing the work envisioned in the project, the proposed use for funds (if the project has monetary needs), the project’s final product, the schedule on which project-related work will be done, and the project’s significance in its field and beyond. Emily Lang Memorial Scholarship

The Emily Lang Memorial Scholarship will be made to an Honors College student based on academic merit and response to the following prompt: “My passion for the outdoors and community service is demonstrated by...” Responses may not exceed 750 words. The award is $1748 and will be made for the 2024-2025 academic year. Applications must contain your Western student ID# and be submitted to honors@wwu.edu by noon on Wednesday, May 1, 2024

Leake Family Honors Scholarship

To provide a one-year scholarship to a student in the Honors College. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) as well as outstanding academic merit. Applicants must be in good standing in the Honors College (ie. have taken an HNRS course within the previous three quarters) and provide an electronic response describing how your financial need has impeded your ability to participate in the Honors community. Responses should not exceed 750 words. The award is $1083 and will be made for the 2024-2025 academic year. Applications must contain your Western student ID# and be submitted to honors@wwu.edu by noon on Wednesday, May 1, 2024

Mariz Scholarship(s)

The Frank and Reba Mariz Scholarship is for Honors College students whose economic precarity has endangered their ability to get the most from their college experience. Applicants must be in good standing in the Honors College (ie. have taken an HNRS course within the previous three quarters) and provide an electronic response describing how your financial need has impeded your ability to participate in the Honors community. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA). Responses should not exceed 750 words. There will be five awards of $1,500 made for the 2024-2025 academic year. Applications must contain your Western student ID# and be submitted to honors@wwu.edu by noon on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
